The text is a modest attempt to report, narrate and index five-decade long history of doctoral research in history conducted in the universities of Uttarakhand. In part, this work is a response to the curiosity to know about the evolution of doctoral research in history and in part to address the felt need for an on hand database of doctoral research for ease of reference. By drawing up a list of DDs an idea about the margins of research could be formed and this has been dealt with in a separate section. This, we hope, shall serve young and upcoming research scholars. We also hope that the text shall have some utility for seasoned scholars as well.
