Bicentenary Reflections on William Moorcroft and His Chronicler

A Virtual Seminar in Memory of William Moorcroft and Prof. Garry Alder

The year 2025 marks the bicentenary of the death of William Moorcroft (1767–1825), widely regarded as one of the greatest explorers of the Himalaya. Moorcroft is believed to have died at Andkhoy, Afghanistan, on 27 August 1825. To commemorate this occasion, we invite you to a virtual seminar reflecting on his life and remarkable explorations.

Alongside Moorcroft’s legacy, we will also remember Prof. Garry Alder, the devoted biographer of Moorcroft, who passed away recently and whose scholarship continues to illuminate Moorcroft’s contributions.
